Karel Prager - his work and legacy
A thematic discussion devoted to controversial architect Karel Prager, the context of the period in which he worked, the projects that were and were not realised, his concepts and legacy for the 21st century. Guest lecturers: PhDr. Rostislav Švácha, architect Jan Línek, architect Jan Louda. Moderated by Vladimír Brož.
Rostisla Švácha (1952) is a historian and theoretician of art and architecture and an author of many publications (e.g. From Modernity to Functionalism, The architecture of New Prague 1895-1945, Karel Teige 1900-1951, Czech Cubist Architecture). He completed his studies at the Philosophy Faculty of Palacký University in Olomouc. In 1985 he became the head of the Institute of Art History of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic where he continues to work today. He also lectures on the history of architecture at Palacký University in Olomouc and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague.
Jan Línek (1943) architect, graduated in 1966 from the Czech University of Technology in Prague, then worked with Karel Prager at Gama Studio. From 1970 to 1990 he worked with Vladimír Milunič and in 1990 he established the private architecture studio L & P.
